About The Course:

This course also covers certification for interested participants. The curriculum is such that every requirement for certification will be met. The course attendees will be presented for exam. Professionals have a duty to ensure that senior management in their business is aware of the need for effective IT Governance.  Additionally, they will need to plan, organize and implement processes for IT Governance so that:

  • IT services are aligned with business requirements
  • IT services are properly directed, organized and controlled
  • IT risk is properly managed
  • There is compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements such as Sarbanes Oxley

You will learn about:

  • The need for IT Governance
  • The new standard for IT Governance: ISO 38500:2008 and how to use it to raise awareness amongst senior management
  • COBIT 5 - the latest version of the international de facto IT Governance framework
  • Other standards, frameworks and approaches that will be required in order to implement COBIT 5as your organization’s IT Governance framework and the outline approach to implementation
    This  course covers the fundamentals of IT Governance based on COBIT and ISO 38500. It starts with an explanation of the role and need for IT Governance with detail of the new international standard ISO 38500:2008 and a broad ranging discussion of 15 relevant standards and frameworks. The main part of the course is concerned with the internationally-recognized best practice for IT Governance, the open standard COBIT 5 which is discussed in detail at a foundation level.  Finally, a roadmap approach for COBIT implementation is outlined and  delegates learn how well-established best practices for IT Service Management, Project Management and Information Security Management (ITIL, PRINCE2 or PMBOK and ISO 27000 series standards) provide an underlying implementation approach for COBIT and IT Governance.

  • Describe the goals of IT Governance and the relationships with Corporate and Business Governance
  • List the activities of IT Governance
  • Justify the need for effective IT Governance
  • Use the international standard for IT Governance, ISO 38500:2008 to advise and guide senior management on their responsibilities
  •  Outline reports, standards and frameworks that contribute to IT governance
  •  Explain the scope, structure and objectives of the COBIT Framework including details of the COBIT domains and processes, the COBIT information criteria and IT resources
  • Recognize how COBIT is used to implement IT Processes to meet IT Goals that deliver Business Goals
  •  Identify the key stages in implementation of IT Governance based on COBIT
  • Make use of Case Studies on COBIT implementation
  • Recognize the wealth of resources on COBIT particularly from ISACA
